Moving On ~ another October

After living under the shadow and shade of our parents for 20 years, sending me off at Ernakulam South Railways station might had been much heavy for our father.  First time going on with own could not be imagined for them.  So all his peers at work were at the railway station to see off the junior.  Specific instructions were given NOT to get out of train until someone will come and call you by your name and your father's friend's name.  That looked a bit confusing.  Then the guy explained, don't get upset.  That is the safe practice when malayalees go to north India, just hold your luggage safe with you and my brother will come inside the coach to take you to their place.

Train left and whole journey was totally different than my daily trips.  It was the beginning of my search for making a living and to get rid of the loans on family assets.

Unbelievably I was not able to contact home for 3 days until reach Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia.  Calling from pillar telephone was a humangous effort.  First question from home was whether you had food or not.  As the objective was to make earnings, weekly telephone calls were like scripted.  Father and mother were consistently giving advise on be safe and to pray at the prayer times of the new country and all.  That season continued for two years to obtain the first annual leave.  Landing in the small airport at Willingdon Island was an unforgettable one as our parents were waiting at the arrival gate of airport.  Even though that vacation return was slightly painful for parents and for self, the gut to shoulder responsibilities were stopping tears.  Expectation was to provide the best luxury for our family and it continued for another 20 years!  countries changed, living styles changed, family was able to own a car, own a mobile phone and to own a desktop computer at early ages of internet.

Every anniversary of our parents were missed.

Every celebrations (onam / vishu) were missed.

Even when every birthdays were missed, mother used to tell during the weekly telephone call that pushpanjali at temple were done in your name.  That was a great blessing!

After 32 years of leaving home, this is the first birthday which I am moving on without them.

Surely hope they will be blessing me from wherever they are now.

dear father and mother, you both will live on me until we meet again.
